Scar Treatment and Scar Optimizing

Scar treatment can be used to modify the look of overgrown, widespread, difficultly located, or distinctive scars.

Scars’ Visibility and Distinctiveness Attempt to be Minimized with Treatment

Scars can be treated surgically, with laser treatment (fractional and vascular laser treatment), using medical injections (corticosteroid injections and Sculptra collagen stimulator), and combining these treatments.

Surgical Scar Laser Treatment and Scar Optimizing

In the recent years, a new method of “optimizing” scars has begun; even successful surgical scars are treated with laser when they’re fresh to ensure healing in the best way possible. According to research, this can be used to affect the scars positively.

However, scars can never be fully removed. At the appointment, we evaluate if scar treatment suits you and discuss the risks it may contain together with you.

Scar Treatment – Surgical Procedures

In surgical scar treatment, the goal is to make a new, less distinctive, and less visible scar. The aftercare corresponds to that of surgical scars.

The new scar can be treated with combination laser treatment (1-3 treatment rounds separated by 1-2 months). According to new research, the laser treatments should be started already at 1-3 months after the surgery.

Laser treatment may cause redness lasting for 1-3 months and bruises that heal in a few weeks.

Scar Treatment May Help With

  • unideally located scars that result from surgery or trauma
  • widespread scars
  • overgrown scars
  • keloid scars
  • acne scars (see Acne Scar Treatment)
  • promoting aesthetic healing of surgical scars.
