Small rhinoplasty procedures can sometimes be performed under local anesthesia. More extensive rhinoplasty, however, requires general anesthesia. The surgical incision is typically located at the lower part of the nose, between the nostrils and inside the nose. During the procedure, the existing cartilaginous and bony structures of the nose can be modified according to the plan made before surgery.

The client can usually return home on the same day, or at the latest on the following day. After surgery, the nose is often supported with a splint, and there may also be supportive materials inside the nostrils to prevent the nostrils from collapsing. Separate instructions will be given for their removal. Realistic expectations, careful planning, and good aftercare are key to a successful result. Recovery takes place in stages and requires patience. The normal recovery time is approximately 2–4 weeks, depending on the extent of the procedure. During this time, swelling and bruising decrease and nasal congestion eases. The final result can be seen after approximately 12–18 months, once the scars have fully healed.

Instructions for Recovery:

  • Avoid blows to the nose and strenuous exercise

  • Sleep with your head elevated in the early stages

  • Follow your surgeon’s aftercare instructions carefully

As with all surgeries, rhinoplasty also carries risks. However, most patients recover without significant problems.

Possible Complications:

  • Infection or bleeding
  • Prolonged swelling or numbness
  • Asymmetry or an aesthetic result that does not meet expectations
  • Difficulty breathing
  • Rarely: a hole in the nasal septum (septal perforation)
