Plastic surgeon Hilkka Peltoniemi needs no introduction among plastic surgeons or the thousands of patients she has treated over the years. She is a pioneer of private hospital plastic surgery and fat grafting in Finland and internationally. She has taught most of the plastic surgeons currently working in Finland and has carried out pioneering research in the field, including on the permanence of fat grafts in the breasts.
Hilkka graduated as a physician in 1991, as a surgeon in 1999, as a Doctor of Medical Science in 2000, and as a specialist in plastic surgery in 2002. After a long career at Helsinki University Hospital, she left in 2008 to work at various private hospitals in Helsinki. She has an impressive list of publications (see CV below) and extensive experience speaking at different events and congresses.
She is especially known for her magical ability to meet her patients genuinely and without hurry, and to create beautiful, natural, and long-lasting results.
Hilkka is gradually trying to step back from clinical surgical work and focus on taking care of her farm and horses. However, she has agreed to act as a medical advisor to Muotosairaala’s younger colleagues, thereby continuing the teaching work for which she is well known among colleagues.
She does not hold her own appointments at Muotosairaala, but when needed, she helps with the planning of more demanding surgeries. She may also be seen in the operating room and planning research settings together with the owner-doctors.
