Botox for Treating Rosacea
In the treatment, botulinum toxin is injected into the problematic area as small droplets. The treatment is done by using tiny needles, and the treated area is numbed by using numbing cream.
The effects of the treatment slowly begin after a few days. The final result can be seen after a few weeks. The results last for 3-6 months, and treatments for maintaining the result are therefore needed.
Risks of the Treatment
Small bruises are possible in all injection treatments. To minimize bruising, we recommend refraining from using infection pain medication and omega-3 and fish oil supplements for 2 weeks prior to the treatment.
Treating rosacea with Botox can cause mild side effects in the muscles of the treated area. For example, the forehead’s flexibility can decrease when injecting Botox into the forehead (similar to aesthetic Botox treatment).
The treatment is not done to those currently pregnant or breastfeeding.
More Information
Before Treatment
- Skin inflammation in the treatment area may prevent the treatment from being performed.
- Botulinum toxin treatments are not performed during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
- To minimize the risk of bruising, we recommend avoiding anti-inflammatory pain medication, omega-3 supplements and fish oil supplements for 2 weeks before the treatment. Anti-inflammatory pain medication, omega-3 or fish oil supplements, or blood-thinning medication do not, however, prevent the treatment from being performed.
