Antti Mikkola’s special areas of expertise are intimate surgery, body contouring, and gender diversity.
Antti originally comes from the countryside, but his career and life took him out into the world. Antti graduated as a physician from Tampere in 2009 and as a specialist in plastic surgery in 2016, already at the age of 32. After graduating, Antti has worked at both Tampere University Hospital and Hämeenlinna Central Hospital. He has gained particular experience in microsurgery, body and breast contouring surgery, as well as intimate surgery. In addition, surgery for eyelid malpositions and scar corrections after injuries are close to his heart.
In 2019, Antti moved to Karolinska University Hospital in Stockholm. There, he leads a plastic surgery team that treats transgender patients and patients with gender dysphoria. His work at Karolinska has given him unique experience, especially in breast and genital surgery. Alongside his work in Stockholm, Antti also treats patients in Finland part-time. Meeting many different kinds of patients at his appointments has shaped Antti into an empathetic and present surgeon. Antti also meets patients with gender dysphoria individually and open-mindedly, listening to each patient’s wishes.
In Stockholm, Antti is carrying out dissertation research on the long-term results and quality of life of transgender patients after surgery. Antti is also an experienced and charismatic lecturer on topics such as gender diversity and the surgical possibilities for transgender patients. In his free time, Antti relaxes at the cottage doing garden work or enjoying cultural events, art exhibitions, and opera. After all, an aesthetic eye can also be trained through art-related hobbies in one’s free time.
