Patrik Lassus is a docent of plastic surgery specializing in complex facial surgery, with more than 20 years of experience in reconstructive and aesthetic facial procedures. As part of the facial surgery team at Muotosairaala, Patrik focuses exclusively on surgery of the facial region. His areas of expertise include facelifts and neck lifts, as well as surgical procedures involving the eyelids, nose, ears, lips, and other areas of the face. He also performs facial fat grafting and injectable treatments. Patrik’s strength lies in combining expertise in reconstructive and functional facial surgery with an aesthetic perspective.
Patrik serves as Chief Physician and Clinical Line Director of Plastic Surgery at HUS and is responsible for Finland’s face transplantation program. He treats facial cancers, the after-effects of injuries, facial paralysis, and congenital deformities, and his team manages Finland’s most complex facial injuries and deformities. He works in multidisciplinary collaboration and utilizes advanced methods in complex surgeries, including 3D modeling and virtual surgical planning.
His demanding hospital work in reconstructive surgery has also provided a unique foundation for aesthetic facial surgery, where the goal is a natural, balanced, and individualized outcome. Every treatment begins with a thorough discussion. Patrik considers it most important to understand the patient’s wishes, goals, and starting point so that the treatment plan can be built in a genuinely individualized manner.
Patrik graduated as a specialist in plastic surgery from the University of Helsinki in 2006 and became a docent in 2007. He actively participates in international research, publishes scientific articles, and lectures at professional congresses around the world. In addition, he has contributed to several textbooks on plastic surgery. In 2025, Patrik was elected President of the International Society of Vascularized Composite Allotransplantation (ISVCA). The society brings together the world’s leading experts in face transplantation and other composite tissue transplants. Face transplantations are performed in only a small number of university hospitals worldwide, reflecting the exceptional complexity of the field.
As a counterbalance to his surgical work, Patrik spends time with his family, enjoys cooking, and engages in running and fitness activities. He also enjoys working with his hands outside the operating room and does woodworking in his own workshop. In addition, he reads extensively and has played drums in the same band for more than 25 years.
