Corrective breast surgery can be an important step in healing from a severe illness. We support you and do our best to ensure the best possible result for you.

Corrective treatment after breast cancer

After breast cancer, the breast can have an abnormal shape or be missing. Corrective surgery is personally planned for each client based on the situation.

In some cases, silicone implants are enough, and in other cases, larger operations done using the patient’s own tissue (autological corrections) are needed.

Our experts have years of experience with corrective breast surgeries. We will always tell you, as honest as possible, things related to the procedure, what results can you expect, and possible complications resulting from the surgery.

Examples of Breast Reconstruction Methods

Breast Implant

In selected cases, a new breast can be created with a breast implant. However, after breast removal, for example, only a thin layer of skin often remains on the chest, which can make the implant very visible and less natural-looking. This method is nevertheless well suited to situations where larger surgeries are to be avoided.

LD Breast Reconstruction

A latissimus dorsi flap (LD flap) is a breast reconstruction method in which skin, fat, and muscle from the back are used to shape a new breast. In the procedure, the latissimus dorsi muscle on the back, together with the fat tissue and skin island above it, is moved through the armpit to the chest to shape the new breast. The tissues transferred from the back receive their blood supply from the vessels in the armpit, which also reach the chest area well enough to nourish the flap. If needed, an implant can also be combined with the procedure to support the shape and volume of the new breast. A separate scar is left on the back where the tissue was removed.

DIEP Breast Reconstruction

A DIEP flap (Deep Inferior Epigastric Perforator flap) is a breast reconstruction method in which the breast is reconstructed using the patient’s own abdominal skin and fat tissue. In the procedure, the skin and fat tissue of the lower abdomen, together with the blood vessel supplying them, are released and transferred to the chest to shape a new breast. On the chest, the blood vessels supplying the flap are connected to the chest’s own blood vessels with microsurgical precision, allowing blood circulation in the transferred tissue to restart. The abdomen is closed in the same way as in a traditional abdominoplasty, with a horizontal scar on the lower abdomen and another small scar forming around the navel.
